2012 Air Race Season
Kings Cup Shobdon Round 6 2012
We all congratulate Gordon Bellerby for wining The Kings Cup - 2012 - our most prestigious Cup at a wonderful weekend hosted by The Herfordshire Aero Club, at Shobdon Airfield in Herefordshire, Sat 18th & Sun19th August 2012
Splendid Shobdon started off with The Stewards Cup Qualifying event. Entries were at a season high of sixteen aircraft incorporating both air race veterans and new members alike. The Kings Cup is always well supported but we were delighted to see such a large entry and one that would have been even greater had several of our 'regulars' not have other commitments.
The Saturday Stewards Cup commenced at the usual 15.30 slot and promised to be competitive from the start with four RV's separated by only seconds from the outset. After just over 60 minute race Derrin McMaster crossed the line first in his C150 Aerobat, followed sometime later by the remainder of the field.
A time clock malfunction prevented the final results being published for almost 24 hours but eventual winner was as Gordon Bellaby in his AA5, no doubt guided to victory by regular navigator David. Second place was taken by the competitive David Moorman in his CAP10 flying in only his third ever race. Last of the podium places went to seasoned veteran Geoffrey Boot, with wife Suzie, flying their SF260.
Swansea Round 5 2012
Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th July 2012
Swansea Air Race - Is CANCELLED due to a MET RED Alert - inclement weather
We are most disappointed in having to make this decision however, we cannot compromise our pilot's safety bearing in mind the proximity of the mountains and the severity of the MET Office's warnings. We are indebted to the hospitality and understanding of the Swansea Airport management..

Abbeville Round 4 2012

Abbeville - Doing It The French Way!
Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th June 2012
Race weekends don't get much better than last weekend's races at Abbeville, some 20 miles south of Le Touquet.
2012 is the 20th anniversary of the 3R's racing in France with all but several meetings held at Abbeville (the others being down the road at Le Treport).
Our old enemy, the weather had threatened cancellation all week, but in the end sun and clear skies triumphed and both races were run to schedule.
A strong entry of 14 aircraft and crew, bolstered by two new entries (the best we've seen for several years) supported the weekend and all were rewarded with great flying and good racing (that is, all except poor old Mark and Jo Turner whose aircraft went tech after the mornings practice period. Aeroplanes!)
The Royal Aero Club Presentations 2012
Race Pilot Geoffrey Boot and his navigator wife Suzie Boot being presented with the Jubilee Trophy at the Royal Aero Clubs Award Ceremony by the HRH Duke of York at the RAF Club on 17th May.

Pilot Malcolm Montgomerie with Navigator Ali Dunevien-Gordon receiving the Kings Cup from HRH Duke of York at the RAF Club on 17th May 2012.
Malcolm won the cup at Sywell in August 2011 flying a Cessna 150 GBJWH The Kings cup was first run in 1922 and was the first Handicap Air Race and is still considered the most prestigious Air Race of the racing season being the only one to receive Royal Patronage.
